Answers with Explanation

1. (c) Israel

Israel has passed a law declaring that only Jews have the right of self-determination in the country. The controversial bill defines the country as an exclusively Jewish state. It is being called racist and on the verge of being apartheid by the members of the Arab minority in the nation.

2. (b) New Delhi
The Centre has sanctioned financial assistance of 300 crore rupees to the Three Municipal Corporations of Delhi for effective solid waste management and dust control. 

3. (d) Bihar 


State-funded shelter homes for women and children in Bihar may get transgender security guards as the government has instructed the authorities to prefer them during recruitment. The instruction followed allegations of sexual exploitation of inmates in some of the state's shelter homes in the recent past.

The Nelson Mandela International Day was observed globally on July 18. The international day marks 100 years since the birth of Nelson Mandela (18 July 1918). The UN celebrates Nelson Mandela International Day across the world with the objective of awakening everyone to their ability and responsibility to change the world for the better.

The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal to grant special remission to prisoners on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.  Under the scheme, certain categories of prisoners including women, transgenders and physically disabled, will be set free on satisfying the given criteria.

India’s first greenfield skill training centre will come up at Baranga near Bhubaneswar in Odisha. The foundation stone of the same was laid down by the Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan on July 16.  The state-of-the-art institute will impart training to the trainers and create a skill-based ecosystem to meet the expectations of the industry.

Researchers from IIT Delhi have developed a silk-based hydrogel that emulates the process of hair growth, an advance that may help screen novel drugs for treating hair loss without using animal tests. The hydrogel is developed by combining a mixture of silk proteins, isolated from silkworm cocoons, and gelatin.

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), India and National Agency for Drug and Food Control (BPOM), Indonesia on cooperation in the field of pharmaceutical products, pharmaceutical substances, biological product and cosmetics regulatory functions. 

10. (d) Cuba 

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given its ex-post facto approval for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Cuba on cooperation in the field of Traditional Systems of Medicine and Homeopathy.  The MoU was signed on June 22, 2018.
